Maine market almost makes back January shopping losses in February

Power shopping in Maine gained 43 accounts in February after seeing a dip of 44 shoppers in January. Two firms saw an increase in shoppers while a third saw a slight drop of only a pair. Bangor Hydro-Electric added nine shoppers in February to end at 1,051. Those new shoppers were in the residential/small C&I and medium C&I columns. While those two classes picked up 10 shoppers, large C&I lost one. The gains at BHE were outpaced by the much larger Central Maine Power where there was a gain of 36 shoppers in February to end at 6,053. CMP saw its gains in the residential/small C&I and medium C&I categories with 24 and 12 respectively. Maine Public Service -- the firm with the fewest shoppers -- saw a dip of two accounts, both in the residential/small C&I category. Medium C&I load served by competitive suppliers in February ranged from 23.8% at MPS to 42.2% at CMP while large C&I load ranged from 71.2% at MPS to 94.2% at CMP. The ranges in January stood at 24.3% at MPS to 42.4% at BHE for medium C&I served by competitive suppliers while large load ranged from 71.9% at MPS to 95.1% at BHE. Competitive supply load in February for residential and small C&I ranged from 0.3% at MPS to 1% at CMP, the same as in January.
