Reliant Energy certified
to enter New York market
April 9, 2008

Aims to serve big accounts,

then maybe others

Reliant Energy was deemed an eligible energy services firm by the New York PSC and was certified to serve non-residential customers of Consolidated Edison, Niagara Mohawk, New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas & Electric in all New York ISO zones except Long Island.

"The New York market is a very strong market with transparency and regulatory certainty, and those are two of the screens we look at when considering a market," Reliant's Senior Vice President for Business Development James Ajello told us yesterday.

In the initial phase of market entry, Reliant will offer service to businesses with power demand of 100 kw/month and higher -- from the largest C&I and government/institutional clients down to medium sized businesses.

Services offered will include commodity supply, risk management, demand response and Green-e renewable energy credits.

"As we get acclimated to the market and learn more about how the energy market works in terms of customers in New York, we will bring our offerings down to smaller and smaller businesses and possibly consider in the future mass market customers," said Ajello.

The firm moved into Illinois and Delaware in 2007 and with New York that makes eight including Washington, DC; Texas, and PJM territories.

"I do think you will see us expanding further as we put our long-term vision into place."
